FAQ’s
If my child is registered with CCHC what are they considered in the eyes of the ‘state’?
Great question! Crescent Christian Homeschool Collaboration is a religious non-profit, support organization and is not a school. Each student will be considered an independent homeschooler as far as the state is concerned. The state of California requires families to file a PSA (Private School Affidavit) in the beginning of the school year and do some record keeping on things like attendance. CCHC will offer parents a comprehensive guide if they wish to file their PSA independently, at the start of the year.
Can I enroll in a charter school?
Yes absolutely! We are happy to partner with the other educational options in the community while also offering parents a Christ centered environment and community for their children. We recommend dual enrollment with Uncharted Shores Academy as their home study program will allow you to participate best in our program. What will the collaborative structure look like?
Crescent Christian Homeschool Collaborative is that; A collaboration with homeschool families to provide a beautiful option somewhere between home and school. Parents are called to teach their children but we also believe wholeheartedly in the value of Christian education and community for our kids. Students will be “homeschooled” but will meet two days a week in a school like setting. Everyone will be on the same curriculum (provided with tuition) and the teacher will provide class twice a week and lesson plans for the other days of the week for families to follow at home. This structure provides a wonderful collaboration with parents and helps ensure they play the important role they were meant to.
Are there volunteer requirements of parents?
CCHC will require some amount of parent participation throughout the year. Foursquare church and CCHC have a requirement of two adults in a classroom with children at all times for safety reasons, this is best practice. We will be establishing a schedule/minimum amount of days for parents and keep it as simple as possible. As we grow and more families join this will give us the ability to have parent participation decrease over time.
What is the Curriculum?
We are planning to use The Good and The Beautiful this year with some supplementation for social studies and bible. We are currently working on compiling a more detailed PDF with grades and curriculum for each subject that will be available soon.
What if I want to be involved but want to choose my own curriculum and have less structure?
For this fall we are focusing our efforts on our collaborative but would also love to partner with homeschool families who are looking for a more relaxed co-op community. In the spring we would like to start, a looser once weekly parent led Co-op where families who would like to be involved in co-curriculars, fun school parties and events can be included. If you feel called by God to lead a program like this please Reach out at: creschristianschool@gmail.com.
